Crew Profile
Captain Jason is a lifelong sailor whose love for the open water has shaped every chapter of his life. He cut his teeth on the Great Lakes, where years aboard traditional schooners and sail training vessels taught him the discipline, seamanship, and respect for weather that only classic sail can instill. From there, his career carried him offshore — running blue-water passages along the Carolina coast, down through the Florida Keys, and into the warm, crystalline waters of the Caribbean and Bahamas.
Jason's experience spans everything from spirited day sails to multi-day offshore deliveries, and he is as comfortable plotting a course through open ocean as he is threading the narrow cuts of an island chain. Guests quickly come to appreciate his steady hand at the helm, his deep well of stories from a life at sea, and his ability to read both wind and water with the instinct that comes only from decades of practice. He holds a calm, methodical approach to seamanship — safety first, always — paired with a genuine warmth that makes every charter feel less like a transaction and more like sailing with an old friend.
Whether navigating open passages, anchoring in a quiet cove for sunset, or island hopping through turquoise waters, Jason is most at home when the sails are up and the horizon is wide. For him, every charter is an opportunity to share the magic that drew him to the water in the first place.
First Mate / Chef Andrew Benjamin
Andrew is a rare double threat — an accomplished first mate and a seasoned chef who excels in both roles. On deck, he handles lines, tenders, water sports, and guest safety with the calm professionalism guests notice immediately. In the galley, he brings over a decade of culinary experience, from the fine-dining kitchens of Atlantis to private motor yachts up to 105 feet. A graduate of Holland College and the College of the Bahamas, he specializes in gourmet fusion cuisine that highlights local Bahamian seafood and ingredients, with deep cruising experience throughout the Abacos and Exumas. Equally at home plating an elegant tasting menu or a relaxed lunch on the sandbar, Andrew is known for impeccable presentation, thoughtful provisioning, and tailoring every meal to his guests. STCW certified.
First Mate / Chef Roman Ukolov
With a dynamic career spanning nearly three decades, Chef Roman brings a wealth of experience and a passion for culinary innovation to every kitchen he joins. His journey through renowned restaurants, cruise ships, and luxury yachts has honed his skills across diverse cuisines, making him a versatile asset in any culinary setting. Chef Roman's repertoire encompasses an impressive array of cuisines, from the Mediterranean to the rich traditions of East Med and Kosher cooking. His mastery extends to the refined techniques of Italian, French, British, German, Russian, and Ukrainian cuisine, offering a symphony of tastes to tantalize the palate of discerning guests. Chef Roman's culinary prowess extends to Far East cuisine that adds a vibrant flair to his menus, while his skill in pastry ensures that every meal concludes on a sweet note. Beyond the galley, Roman also doubles as a competent first mate — comfortable on deck handling lines, tenders, and guest service underway, which makes him a true two-in-one asset on any charter.

Crew Review From Previous Yacht
We spent a week long charter on Andiamo captained by the wonderful John Emlet and his beautiful wife, Amanda. John and Amanda were amazingly knowledgeable, accommodating, and kind. It was obvious from the start how much experience John has as a captain, and we always felt safe and at ease. By the end of the week they felt like family to us! They knew the best snorkeling spots, and we were blessed to see THOUSANDS of fish, sea turtles, sting ray, and even a shark! Our son (10) is a die hard fisherman, and Captain John and Amanda made sure to make sure he had a blast catching lots! We were even blessed to have John make us his famous seafood fettuccine, which was incredible!! We would recommend them to anyone, and we are already making plans to charter and use them again. The catamaran, Andiamo, that we chartered worked perfectly for our family of four, was clean, and was stocked with everything we needed for the week. We had the best vacation and can't wait to return!
August 2024
My fiance, two friends, and myself had such a wonderful time with John and Amanda on our day charter of the Florida Keys. They were pleasant hosts that allowed us to have a good time on our own while also being informative and flexible with our agenda for the day. Would highly recommend them for a wholesome boat experience with John and Amanda and Blue Ocean Yacht Charters
August 2024
We rented a 62 ft yacht for 4 days. Boat was Par T On. Sue helped us with our reservation and pre travel paperwork. She was great.
Hannah checked us in and was very professional and friendly. Turns out she was from our own home town. Great service.
Then on 20 August 2024 we had this pleasure of meeting Captain John Emlet and Mate Amanda.
We cruised around Key West all afternoon and finished up at sunset. Not only were they informative and professional but a great couple.
Was if we had been friends for years. We had the most fun day at sea ever, and a great time staying with Blue Ocean Yacht Charters. The company and people are amazing and everyone needs to experience what we have. Highly recommended.
September 2024
Captain John and Amanda were great, super knowledgeable about the area and insanely kind while out on our charter.
We even had a small issue with our AC unit and Captain John was back at the boat at 11 o'clock at night helping us rip apart the unit to get it working again.
We have nothing but amazing things to say about Captain John and Amanda and we hope you too get lucky enough to have them show you around this beautiful island they call home.
November 2024 - Crew Review From Previous Yacht
We had a fantastic time on Andiamo with Capt John and Amanda. They were so kind and laid back while being totally professional. We were lucky enough to find a couple of pods of Bottlenose Dolphins that hung out around Andiamo for quite a while. Truly magical.
December 2024
John and Amanda are amazing. Took us to see beautiful reefs. Had an absolute blast with these two.
1000% Recommend!
December 2024
Blue Ocean knows how much these experiences mean to their customers and do not take that lightly! Captain John is one of those captains that if anything unfortunate were to happen you feel you're in good hands, not to mention he's captained some of the largest vessels in the water and in the sky!! Team him up with Daniel, who we can't wait to see become a captain himself, and it is an experience of a lifetime! Daniel served great drinks, helped the chef, very knowable of the island and great stories plus an awesome deck hand! Blue Ocean and their staff are the only option, do not work with anyone else..no need to!!
PS book Key West catering and make sure Zach Wolf is your guy, talk about someone finding their calling "chefs kiss" the food was the best and local with great stories and descriptions of the culinary process! Loved it!
January 2025- Crew Review From Previous Yacht
Our week on the Grand Admiral was amazing thanks to Jeff, John, Tom, and Sue!! I couldn't thank these folks more for helping our family make memories to last a lifetime! Jeff really came through with fabulous snorkeling spots and even got a group of dolphins to chase our wake. All hearts are happy!!
Can't wait to see you all again!!
February 2024
Our experience with John and Amanda was great!
They made sure to keep things running smoothly and safely. Very smooth ride. Highly recommend!

August 2025
We all had an absolutely fantastic time aboard. The boat was wonderful, but the real highlight was your incredible crew. As a pilot who works closely with a family, I know firsthand the importance of exceptional service—and John and Amanda truly set the bar high. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and warmth made everyone feel right at home.
Chef Brian was equally impressive. His ability to craft meals that delighted all of the adults while still catering perfectly to the kids was spot on. Every dish was outstanding, and his flexibility made dining an absolute pleasure.
John also did a terrific job planning activities that everyone could enjoy—including the 80-year-old birthday girl! Every day brought a new highlight, and the memories we made will stay with us for years to come.
It was truly a trip we’ll never forget. Please pass along our heartfelt thanks to the entire crew.
Warm regards,
Casey Scanlon
August 2025
We had such a wonderful experience aboard the yacht. Captain Josh and Amanda treated us with the highest level of professionalism and care, while still making us feel completely at home. They were attentive, kind, and went above and beyond to ensure our time on board was relaxing and enjoyable. From start to finish, their hospitality made the trip truly memorable. We couldn’t have asked for better hosts, and we are so grateful for the amazing service they provided.

We had the most unforgettable day on the water!
Captain John, Captain Mike, and Captain Dave were absolutely incredible—attentive, professional, and extremely knowledgeable. My husband and I asked for a relaxing day filled with jet skiing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, and swimming, and they delivered exactly that and more.
The boat itself was pristine—clean, comfortable, and fully stocked with everything we could possibly need. Lunch and drinks were delicious, and the captains went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of every step of the way. We truly felt like royalty!
This was the perfect day on the water, and without a doubt, we’ll be booking with them again the next time we’re in the Bahamas. Highly recommend!
